What is Route optimization?
Working out the order a driver should visit stops so the day is shorter and delivery windows are still met — then reviewing the proposal before it changes anything.
Given a driver and twenty stops, there are more possible orderings than anyone could check by hand. A route optimizer finds a good one quickly, accounting for road distance, travel time and each stop’s window. The gain is usually measured in kilometres saved per day and, more importantly, in windows kept.
Two cautions. An optimizer that ignores windows produces the shortest route and the most missed promises. And a proposal that is applied without review will occasionally do something a dispatcher would never do — so the good ones show the new order as a list and on a map, and wait for confirmation.
