What is Proof of delivery?
Evidence captured at handoff — a photo, signature, note, scanned label or one-time code — showing what was delivered, to whom, where and when.
Proof of delivery (POD) exists for the day someone says “it never arrived”. A photo of the parcel at the door, a signature from the person who took it, the GPS point and timestamp, and a note from the driver turn that conversation into a two-minute check instead of a refund.
Stronger forms of proof add verification: scanning a QR label so the right parcel is matched to the right stop, or a one-time code the recipient reads from their phone so the handoff is confirmed by the person expecting it. These matter most for pharmacy, high-value goods and anything that should not go to a neighbour.
Good POD is enforced, not optional: the driver cannot complete the stop until the required proof is captured, and the proof attaches to the order automatically.
In PrivateMile: proof rules are set per organisation — photo, signature, notes, QR-verified parcels, OTP handoffs — and enforced in the driver app. Captured proof is attached to the order and shown to the customer on their tracking page.
