What is Delivery management system?

A delivery management system is the layer between an order being placed and a parcel being handed over. It covers order intake, route planning, driver assignment, live tracking, customer communication, proof capture and reporting — the full path, rather than one step of it.
It is worth distinguishing from adjacent tools. A route planner sequences stops and stops there. A telematics system tracks vehicles but knows nothing about orders. A transport management system usually operates a level up, at freight and carrier scale. A delivery management system is the one that owns the last mile end to end.
The practical test of whether you need one: count how many systems today’s orders touch between arriving and being proven. If the answer is more than one, somebody is retyping, and retyping is where addresses break.
