What is Failed delivery attempt?

A delivery trip that reaches the address but cannot be completed, requiring a retry — and costing the trip, the retry, the call and the reschedule.

A failed attempt is one of the most expensive events in local delivery, because it is paid for at least twice: the trip that failed, and the trip that succeeds later. Add the customer call, the reschedule, and occasionally a refund, and one failed attempt can cost more than two successful deliveries.

The causes cluster tightly. Nobody home is usually a notification problem — the customer was never told when to expect the driver, or was told too late to act. No access is usually a data problem — a buzzer code or gate instruction that exists in somebody’s head rather than on the order. Wrong address is an address book problem.

None of those are driver problems, which is why pressuring drivers rarely moves the number and better notifications usually do.

In PrivateMile: failed attempts are recorded with a reason and a photo, count toward reporting rather than being excluded from it, and can be paid to the driver — because the trip took the same time and fuel whether or not anyone answered the door.

Your next route could be the first one it plans.
